Iran's International Atomic Energy Agency Increases Enriched Uranium Stockpile

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran has increased its enriched uranium stockpile.

According to the IAEA report, in the past three months, Iran has increased its uranium reserves to near the threshold required for producing nuclear weapons.

As reported by agency officials on Tuesday, May 27th in Vienna, the Islamic Republic has about 142 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, which is nearly 21 kilograms more than in February.

Experts say that around 50 kilograms of this material is needed to make a nuclear warhead. This uranium needs to be further enriched to about 90% purity for military use.

The leadership of the Islamic Republic denies seeking nuclear weapons, but IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi referred on Tuesday, May 27th to Iran’s officials’ statements about the possible change in this doctrine and Iran’s existing technical capabilities to develop such weapons.
