In his statement about elections and people’s sovereignty, Seyyed Mohammad Khatami confirmed that realizing the aspirations of the people for reforms is possible through elections. He mentioned that if the proposal of the Reformist Front is implemented, he will participate in the elections.
According to Jamaran’s report, the text of the statement by Hojatoleslam Seyyed Mohammad Khatami is as follows:
I have said it many times and I say it again: the establishment of a democratic system that the ancient desire of the Iranian nation and the opener of the path to a better future is achievable through elections. As long as the elections are fair and competitive, and the voters are the people, not the rulers. We are far from the criteria of elections until we reach them.
However, considering the internal, external, and surrounding circumstances, sometimes participating in the elections may be justified, even if the conditions for the elections are not entirely favorable.
It is necessary to create a society in which every individual is seen as a human being, regardless of their beliefs, and where their rights and dignity are respected. Stating that if the proposal of the Reformist Front is realized, I will participate in the elections.
The candidate in question must have a clear vision for the country’s progress and be committed to serving the people honestly and in a way that benefits the nation as a whole.
The candidate should believe in and actively pursue reforms and changes in all structural and strategic aspects.
In order to gain the trust of the people and move towards positive transformation in all economic, political, scientific, and cultural fields, the candidate needs to be innovative, constructive, and make the most of the limited resources available to them. By taking bold steps towards positive change, they should alleviate concerns about the current situation and reduce worries about the country’s future.
Investment in infrastructure, industry, and services for rural and urban areas and the middle and lower classes, especially the less privileged sectors, on the one hand, and preventing the decline of economic, social, and human capital, which unfortunately is weakening day by day, and striving for improving people’s lives and livelihoods with a desirable economic approach towards comprehensive and sustainable development with justice, on the other hand, is an inevitable priority.
The three pains of unemployment, inflation, and recession are the main challenges facing the economy and society, which must be addressed effectively.
Creating favorable conditions for addressing unemployment and reducing poverty, especially in rural and marginalized areas, by utilizing scientific and expert knowledge and innovative solutions is essential.
The government is committed to promoting justice, equality, and development in all areas of governance, as well as ensuring the well-being and access to international resources for the comprehensive development of the country. The strategic and balanced use of national resources, along with the participation and empowerment of all individuals and social groups, is a necessity dictated by wisdom. I hope that with the cooperation and support of the nation, we can achieve the desired optimal use of strategic resources and move towards progress and prosperity. Recognizing the importance of sustainable development, I believe that the thoughtful and deep understanding of the nuances of our society’s needs will lead us to a brighter future.
