Mohammad Rasoulof has been sentenced to eight years in prison, flogging, and a fine.
Mohammad Rasoulof, a well-known director and critic of the Islamic Republic, has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic to eight years in prison, flogging, and a fine.
Babak Paknia, Mr. Rasoulof’s lawyer, announced on Thursday, May 8, through a tweet on his Twitter account that his client has been sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, 5 years of enforceable flogging, a fine, and confiscation of property by a ruling issued by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court.
He further stated that this verdict has been directly confirmed by Branch 36 of the Appeals Court and the case has now been sent for execution of the sentences.
Mr. Paknia says the main reason for issuing this verdict is the signing of statements and making films and documentaries, which the court considers as acts of collusion and conspiracy to commit crimes against national security.
