Mostafa Pourmohammadi said corrupt networks buy ministers and news agencies.
In a televised debate, Mostafa Pourmohammadi stated that traditional approaches to combating financial corruption do not work in today’s complex conditions.
Mr. Pourmohammadi mentioned that he has no doubt about the honesty of other candidates in tackling corruption, but he sees inefficiencies in the government agencies’ fight against corruption.
Emphasizing that corruption is not unique to Iran, he said corrupt networks have become so extensive and powerful that they buy from ministers to news agencies.
Mr. Pourmohammadi stressed the need to give journalists and whistleblowers the opportunity to work for transparency to expand.
Mostafa Pourmohammadi also stated that tax organizations are the most important base for fighting corruption and money laundering, with special powers worldwide.
He said the tax organization should be transformed into the Iranian financial police.
