Possibility of Lake Urmia drying up by the year 1438

According to the results of a scientific study on the IIAVAS website affiliated with the American Geophysical Union, Lake Urmia may dry up by the year 1438.

Lake Urmia, considered the identity of Gilan, is a place where 9 main rivers flow into the Caspian Sea. This lake is considered one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, with at least 150 species of resident and migratory birds.

According to available statistics, 49 species of fish, as well as a large population of mammals and reptiles, also live in this lake.

The researchers of the mentioned study, taking into account various indicators such as climate change or natural and human factors, have outlined the future of Lake Urmia in the coming decades. In this study, it is predicted that the water level of the Caspian Sea will decrease by 4 to 10 meters.

According to this research, Lake Urmia will at least turn into a seasonal waterbed by the end of the current century, and it may even completely dry up by 2060 AD (1438 AH). The destruction of this lake will have a negative impact not only on the environmental disaster but also on the ecology and economy of the region.
