The United Nations Calls for Russia to Exit Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine

The United Nations called for Russia’s withdrawal from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

99 countries at the United Nations General Assembly voted for Russia’s exit from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

The UN, through this resolution, which is not legally binding, has demanded that Russia immediately withdraw its military forces and other unauthorized personnel from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and hand over full control of the plant to Ukraine.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine fell under Russian control from the early days of Russia’s military attack on the country, and the military engagement around it raised concerns.

Recently, Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), expressed concern about attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, warning of the opening of a new and highly dangerous front.

In the text of the resolutions, which 9 countries voted against and 60 countries abstained, it is also stated that Moscow must cease its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
