The spokesperson of the Guardian Council stated that the draft law on chastity and hijab has not yet been approved by the Guardian Council. Regarding a claim made by a member of the parliament that all branches of government have agreed on penalizing unveiled women, he emphasized that preparing, drafting, and approving bills and drafts are the responsibility of the government and the parliament, and the Guardian Council does not have the authority to interfere in the technical discussions of the representatives.
Hadi Tahannazif mentioned the latest status of the review process of the draft law on chastity and hijab in the Guardian Council, stating that this draft has been exchanged multiple times between the parliament and the Guardian Council, and the latest amendments to this draft were also reviewed in a Guardian Council meeting.
He stated that the draft law on chastity and hijab has not yet been approved by the Guardian Council, explaining that due to some shortcomings and ambiguities, the draft has been returned to the parliament for further revisions. After the corrections and addressing the issues by the parliament, it will be reviewed again by the Guardian Council.
