Ali Motahari reacts to Yalda Moayeri’s sentence: Studying Motahari is not a punishment

Ali Motahari, Tehran’s representative in the tenth parliament, wrote a letter to Mohseni Ejei in reaction to the sentence of Yalda Moayeri, a news photographer.

Honorable Hojjat al-Islam Mr. Ejei, May your blessings continue, Respected Head of the Judiciary, With greetings and best wishes for your success, it was reported in the news that Ms. Yalda Moayeri, a news photographer, has been sentenced in the preliminary court to, among other things, write a hundred-page research on the works of the martyred scholar Ayatollah Motahari. While the attention to the works of this esteemed Islamic scholar is commendable, especially when cultural institutions of the system like the national broadcasting organization have ignored these works despite repeated and emphatic recommendations from Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader, using them as a punishment and a compulsory task can have negative effects both on the sentenced individual and society. This is because referring to these works should be out of choice and preference. I kindly request that arrangements be made for this sentence to be annulled in the appeals court. I thank you in advance for your kind attention.
