Annabelle Sreberny, Writer, Researcher, and SOAS University Professor in London, Passed Away

Annabelle Sreberny, a writer, researcher, and professor at SOAS University in London, has passed away.

Ms. Sreberny, who was a professor at the Centre for Global Media and Communications at SOAS University and the first director of the university’s Centre for Iranian Studies, died on December 29, 2022.

She recently spoke at Goldsmiths University about the nationwide protests in Iran in 2022.

At least two of her books, titled ‘A Sociological Look at Mass Media in Iran’ and ‘The Global Coverage of American Media in Iran,’ have been translated into Persian and published.

Her research on the history, politics, society, and culture of Iran led to the publication of a book about the Iranian Islamic Revolution, titled ‘The Great Revolution.’

Ms. Sreberny, who was Jewish, went to Iran in 1976 with her Iranian husband Ali and lived in the country for two years.
