Ashkan Khatibi, Iranian Cinema Actor, Says: I've Been Living in Fear and Secrecy for Ninety Days and Had a Stroke During This Time

Ashkan Khatibi, an Iranian cinema actor, has been living in fear and secrecy for ninety days, and during this time, he suffered a stroke once.

Ashkan Khatibi, an Iranian cinema actor, wrote in his Instagram post about what has happened to him in the past ninety days. Mr. Khatibi wrote that he has been living in fear and secrecy for ninety days, and during this time, he suffered a stroke once.

Mr. Khatibi described his situation on Instagram like this: ‘I have been living in fear and secrecy for ninety days. On the first of Mehr, I was charged with accusations with verbal and physical violence from interrogators and was referred to a judge. After that, I was interrogated and questioned for several more hours by others. Under the pretext of insulting the sacred, I was physically attacked by plainclothes agents in the street and repeatedly received death threats over the phone, to the extent that I gave up my phone line. I abandoned my life, my work, and everything I had built. During this time, I suffered a stroke once, and every day I experience anxiety attacks from recalling what they did to me. I didn’t say these things to lament my misfortunes. I am still alive, but the most beautiful and bravest people of Iran are either hanged or killed in the streets every day and every night.’
