Australia announces the thwarting of Iranian espionage operations

The Minister of Home Affairs of Australia has stated that the country’s security agencies have recently foiled espionage operations by the Iranian government. These operations targeted an Iranian-Australian individual and his family.

On Tuesday, February 14th, Minister Clare O’Neil spoke about foreign interference that poses a threat to Australian democracy during her speech at the Australian National University (ANU).

She mentioned that many countries carry out espionage operations in other nations, but she specifically wants to talk about Iran.

The Minister of Home Affairs of Australia revealed that the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) had halted espionage operations by the Iranian government in late last year. These operations targeted a dual citizen connected to the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in Australia.
