The Association of Journalists for Freedom of Expression in Canada awarded their prize to Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi. Both journalists have spent over 100 days in prison for reporting on the case of Mahsa Amini.

The death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish girl, sparked widespread protests that have been ongoing for over 150 days.

According to a report by Hrana, affiliated with a group of human rights activists in Iran, from September 16th to December 15th, more than 19,700 protesters have been arrested, 71 children have been killed, and another 180 children have been detained.
