Biden makes granting asylum in America more difficult
President Joe Biden’s administration has proposed a plan that would make it harder for immigrants to seek asylum starting from May of this year, after the cancellation of COVID border controls.
According to this plan, adult asylum seekers must use an application to schedule an appointment with US authorities or apply for asylum in another country before arriving in the United States.
Failure to comply with these conditions would prevent immigrants and asylum seekers from being eligible for asylum.
Immigrant advocacy groups have compared this plan to the policies of the Donald Trump era.
The proposed plan is the toughest measure to restrict immigration, introduced by Democrat Joe Biden, who promised a more humane approach to the border crisis compared to his predecessor’s administration. The proposed law only applies to adults and families and does not include unaccompanied children.
