Boeing to Remove CEO Amid Widespread Aircraft Safety Crisis

Boeing in the midst of a widespread safety crisis related to airplane safety is dismissing its CEO.

Following the extensive safety crisis that intensified after part of the body of a Boeing 737 Max aircraft detached last December, David Calhoun, the CEO of Boeing, will step down by the end of this year. This resignation is part of a major management overhaul at the aircraft manufacturer.

Boeing announced that Stan Deal, the head and CEO of Boeing’s commercial airplane division, will retire, and Stephanie Pope will replace him. Additionally, Steve Mollenkopf, the former CEO of Qualcomm, has been appointed as the new chairman of the board and will lead the process of selecting the next CEO.

These changes in Boeing’s leadership come after weeks of turmoil following the crash of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max aircraft with 171 passengers. This incident has turned into a full-fledged safety and credibility crisis for this renowned aircraft manufacturer.
