Canada's Foreign Minister in Ottawa Stops Arms Sales to Israel

Canadian Foreign Minister in Ottawa suspends arms sales to Israel

Following the approval of a non-binding motion to suspend arms sales to Israel in the Canadian Parliament, Foreign Minister Melanie Joly of this country announced on Tuesday, March 29, that Ottawa is halting arms sales to Israel.

The Canadian Foreign Minister said in interviews with the Toronto Star regarding the suspension of arms sales to Israel that this is a real issue.

The non-binding motion in the Canadian Parliament was approved on Tuesday with 204 in favor and 117 against. This motion was presented to Parliament by the New Democratic Party, part of the United Parties of Justin Trudeau.

This comes as the Canadian government had previously stated that requests for military equipment to Israel were being reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The Canadian government had earlier called for a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict and had warned about the catastrophic consequences of military operations in that region.
