Don’t inflame tensions, Blinken

According to Iran Gate, Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, arrived at Tel Aviv International Airport in Israel after a short trip to Egypt. Blinken stated that he has come at a critical moment and condemns the Palestinian attacks on Israeli citizens, but he does not consider seeking revenge against innocent victims as an appropriate response to these attacks.

He also added that retaliatory acts of violence against non-combatants have never been acceptable. Blinken referred to the Friday attack that resulted in the killing of seven people outside a Jerusalem synagogue, saying that taking the life of an innocent human being in a terrorist act has always been a heinous crime. However, placing people outside their place of worship is a disturbing act, and we strongly condemn it.

He further emphasized that we condemn with utmost firmness all those who celebrate and support these terrorist acts and similar ones that result in the killing of non-combatants, regardless of who the victims are or what beliefs they hold. It is the responsibility of everyone to take steps to calm the situation and resolve the crisis instead of inflaming tensions.

In a statement at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv before meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Lincoln said that this is the only way to stop the escalating wave of violence that has claimed the lives of many Israelis and Palestinians so far.

Israeli Foreign Minister Elie Cohen thanked the US Secretary of State for America’s commitment to regional stability, citing the explicit message against terrorism upon arrival in Israel and expressing a willingness to expand the Abraham Accords and take a firm stance against Iran.

At the end of the meeting with Netanyahu, the US Secretary of State said, ‘We have agreed that Iran should never have access to nuclear weapons.’ Regarding the Palestinian issue, Blinken reiterated that the United States is committed to a two-state vision and emphasized the need for fundamental measures and actions to reduce tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. We have common interests and values. We are two strong democracies, and I promise you that we will remain so.

He added that expanding the circle of peace refers to the Abraham Accords, which will also be useful in achieving a manageable solution with the Palestinians. The US Secretary of State then continued by reminding of the current conflict in Israel regarding judicial reform, which strengthens our partnership and cooperation. Our common values, especially support for institutions and democratic values, defending human rights and minorities, the rule of law, freedom of the press, and a strong civil society, are what make us very strong.
