The Dutch Navy is deploying a support ship to the Red Sea

The Dutch Navy is deploying a support vessel to the Red Sea.

Netherlands will be sending a logistic ship to the Middle East and the Red Sea region in support of the European Union’s defense and security operation known as Aspides from May to August.

Operation Aspides is the EU’s response to the Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. This group, backed by Iran, has been targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since last November.

The Royal Netherlands Navy will deploy the multi-purpose support ship HNLMS Karel Doorman for the distribution of ammunitions, medical supplies, and mission-related care in this region.
