Elon Musk’s major achievement
A 29-year-old paralyzed patient was able to move a computer mouse by just thinking and engage in playing chess.
Neuralink, Elon Musk’s controversial startup, produces brain-computer chips. In a live video, the startup showed how their first patient, with chips implanted in his brain, was able to play chess.
Nolund Arbaou, a 29-year-old patient of Neuralink, became paralyzed from the shoulders down after a tragic diving accident. He managed to move a mouse pointer on a laptop screen while experiencing playing chess with the Neuralink brain-computer chip. Neuralink’s chip aims to assist people in controlling mouse and keyboard through thoughts.
Arbaou underwent surgery and had a Neuralink chip implanted in his brain in early 2024. Last month, Elon Musk announced that Nolund Arbaou can control a mouse solely through his thoughts.
