Erdogan traveled to Egypt after 12 years

After 12 years, Erdogan traveled to Egypt.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, has traveled to Egypt for the first time in over a decade. Mr. Erdogan was welcomed by Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt, upon his arrival. Erdogan has been close to Egypt for nearly 11 years and has a history of proximity with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The two countries severed their relations in 2013 after the ousting of Mohamed Morsi, the Islamist President of Egypt.

Since Erdogan came to power, Turkey had close relations with Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. However, the two countries went through a tense period between 2013 and 2023.

But their relations have improved in recent years.

The most important agenda item of Erdogan’s trip is titled ‘War in Gaza.’ The President of Turkey has repeatedly criticized Israel openly.
