Estonia’s foreign intelligence service warns of Russia’s military confrontation with the West in the next decade
Estonia’s foreign intelligence service announced on Tuesday that Russia is preparing for a military confrontation with the West in the next ten years, but by strengthening the armed forces, it is possible to deter it.
Increasing numbers of Western officials have warned of Russia’s military threat to NATO’s Eastern flank countries and have called on Europe to prepare for rearmament.
The head of Estonia’s foreign intelligence service said that this assessment is based on Russia’s plans to double the number of troops deployed along its border with some NATO members, such as Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia, in the Baltic region.
Kapo Rosin, speaking at the release of Estonia’s national security threats report, told reporters that the path Russia has chosen is a long-term confrontation, and the Kremlin is likely predicting a potential conflict with NATO within the next decade.
