European Commission gives Twitter a yellow card

The European Commission has given Twitter a yellow card.

The European Commission, responsible for combating misinformation online, has expressed disappointment with Twitter’s performance in providing the necessary data to this institution and has given the company a yellow card.

Therefore, if Twitter does not fulfill its commitments by June, it may be fined by Europe.

Věra Jourová, Deputy Head of Values and Transparency at the European Commission, emphasized in press statements that transparency should be greater than this, and relying solely on platforms is not enough to have quality information in the digital space.

According to her, the information reported by platforms regarding combating falsehoods and disinformation must be independently verifiable.

Unlike Google, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok, Twitter was unable to convince members of this institution of its performance in combating misinformation in the six-month report submitted to the European Commission.
