Farzaneh Fasih won a gold medal.

Farzaneh Fasih from Iran won the gold medal in the women’s 60-meter indoor athletics event at the Asian Championships hosted by Kazakhstan.

The 30-year-old Iranian athlete surpassed her competitors at the finish line with a record time of 72.8 seconds in the final of the 60-meter race, securing her place on the championship podium.

She paid homage to her formidable Kazakhstani opponent by performing the famous gesture of respect, similar to what Justin Gatlin, the American sprinter, did in front of Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter.

Ms. Fasih also advanced to the final round in the preliminary stage of the competition with a time of 72.3 seconds, surpassing her own national record.
