The fine for employing unauthorized foreign nationals has been set at nearly 1 million tomans per day

The fine for employing unauthorized foreign nationals has been set at approximately 1 million Tomans per day.

The General Directorate of Foreign Nationals Employment of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare has specified a new fine of about 12 million Tomans per day for employers who use unauthorized foreign nationals without work permits.

The easy presence and employment of foreign nationals in Iran, especially Afghan nationals, is a problem that has become an undeniable reality and a serious issue in the country’s labor market for decades, to the extent that Iranian workers believe employers hire foreign labor to make their own working conditions easier.

According to labor law, foreign nationals without work permits, temporary work permits, or temporary work cards are not allowed to work in the country. If an employer hires them, they will be considered violators and subject to fines.

According to this circular, based on paragraph J of Article 11 of the Law on Regulating Some Financial Regulations of the Government and based on the recent decision of the Supreme Council of Labour regarding the determination of the minimum daily wage in the year 1403, the penalty amount for employers who illegally employ foreign nationals without a work permit has been set at 11,943,640 Rials per day. In case of repeated violations, this amount will be doubled.
