First conversation between Putin and Ebrahim Raisi after Iran’s attack on Israel

On Tuesday afternoon, April 16, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, had a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, as announced by the Kremlin press service. In this conversation, Putin called on all parties to exercise restraint.

This is the first conversation between Putin and Raisi after Iran’s drone and missile attack on Israel.

The Kremlin statement also mentioned that Putin described the escalation and spread of tensions and conflicts as having potentially disastrous consequences for the entire region, expressing hope that a new round of conflicts would not arise.

The Iranian President emphasized in response that the missile and drone strikes on Israel were a limited response to Israel’s airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, and Tehran has no desire to further escalate tensions.

Furthermore, the Kremlin press service statement stated that Putin and Raisi emphasized that the main reason for the current events in the Middle East stems from the unresolved conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
