Today, Sunday, a woman is set to officiate in the men’s English Premier League for the first time.

Rebecca Welch has previously been part of a refereeing team, but now she is set to be the referee for the Fulham versus Burnley match in the Premier League.

Women referees have been present in the English cricket and rugby union associations, but until now, there has been no female referee in the Premier League.

The governing body for refereeing says that its appointments have not been diverse enough so far.
