Former advisor to Mir Hossein Mousavi: The system has no choice but to form a constituent assembly

Alireza Beheshti, former advisor to Mir Hossein Mousavi, the former Prime Minister, and the son of Mohammad Beheshti, the first head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, has called for the formation of a constituent assembly, stating that the system has no other option.

Mr. Beheshti has said that the system must choose between two things: if it wants Iran to remain, it should accept this solution, or it should admit that it doesn’t care if Iran remains.

He has stated that the way forward is to form a comprehensive constituent assembly representing all tastes and interests, in an environment where free discussion can take place.

He was among those who were arrested and imprisoned following the controversial election in which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the winner.
