I will not sacrifice one of my best officers to Putin's games, says German Defense Minister

The German Defense Minister says I will not sacrifice one of our best officers in Putin’s games.

Boris Pistorius, the German Defense Minister, says that during a wiretap conducted by Russia, one of our officials in a high-level military contact about Ukraine mistakenly spoke through an insecure line, and German communication systems were not compromised.

Pistorius added that Russia likely eavesdropped on discussions among senior German Air Force officials accidentally and through extensive surveillance.

However, this situation has raised questions about Germany’s information security.

Russian media last week released an audio file of a meeting of German officials on a web platform discussing arms deliveries to Ukraine and a potential attack on Kyiv to Crimea. Pistorius said our communication systems were not compromised, but an operational mistake by an individual led to the Air Force contact being intercepted.
