A member of the German parliament emphasized the need to designate the Revolutionary Guards as terrorists.
Bundestag called what is happening in Iran a revolution and demanded support for Iranian protesters by increasing pressure on the European Union to designate the Revolutionary Guards as terrorists.
Norbert Röttgen, in articles published on the European Council’s website, referred to the severe repression that the regime has resorted to in order to survive against the protesters, saying that the Iranian people are aware that only they can overthrow the regime, but with the support of other countries, including severe sanctions and isolating the revolutionary regime, the process can be expedited.
He added that Iranians who sacrifice their lives for this cause have the right to expect more than just a minimal reaction from Germany and the European Union.
Röttgen also asked if we truly understand in Germany and Europe the precarious situation that Iran is in. Does the German coalition government know that a successful revolution in Iran can have the most positive imaginable impact on the world?
