Heavy financial aids from Zahkani have been paid to some members of the city council, and this money has been paid from the people’s pockets.
Recently, a list of the municipality’s aids to some of its managers for housing deposits has been published. The municipality has not yet had an official reaction to this list, but a member of the Tehran City Council requested last year that these aids be transparent at least for council members.
Mehdi Eghrariyan, the head of the Supervision Committee of the Tehran City Council, responds to the question of why the information requested by council members is not provided to them but is unofficially disclosed by media activists. He tells EqoIran, ‘Unfortunately, it seems that some members do not consider critics as confidential.’
He continues, ‘On the 16th of Mehr last year, I received a report on housing deposit aids that I requested for verification from the municipality. I asked them to provide me with a list of these aids, but this did not happen. These aids are not from the esteemed mayor’s pocket but from the municipality’s and the people of Tehran’s pockets, and they should be made available to council members for oversight.’
