Hossein Khairi released from death row

Hossein Khairi, one of the death row prisoners, has been released.

Human rights organizations have reported the release of Hossein Khairi, a political prisoner, from Rajai Shahr Prison.

Hengaw and Iran Human Rights have confirmed his release.

Hossein Khairi, a 34-year-old resident of Kermanshah, had been sentenced to death by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, in Tir 1400 (June/July 2021).

He was charged with insurgency through the destruction of public property in order to confront the regime.

A few days ago, Babak Paknia, a lawyer in Iran, had announced the cancellation of the death sentence for this political prisoner. He emphasized the importance of a defense attorney and stated that there is a significant difference between execution and a five-year imprisonment.

He had been imprisoned since Tir 1399 (June/July 2020) until now.
