Increase in air pollution in 10 major cities of Iran
The Iranian Meteorological Organization issued a warning on Tuesday, December 27, about the increase in air pollution in 10 major cities of the country. As a result, primary schools in Tehran have been closed for the second consecutive day and switched to online classes.
The Meteorological Organization has predicted and issued a yellow alert for a decrease in air quality in Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd, Arak, Karaj, Ahvaz, Semnan, Mashhad, Qazvin, and Karaj from December 27 to January 1.
The reason for this occurrence is the continued stability of the weather accompanied by an increase in the concentration of air pollutants. The Meteorological Organization has stated that if the sources of pollution, both stationary and mobile, are not controlled, the unhealthy condition will become widespread for all groups, especially sensitive ones.
The organization has called for a reduction in unnecessary traffic and active control of industrial activities in pollution-emitting centers.
Following these warnings, the Air Pollution Emergency Task Force in the Tehran Governorate announced on Tuesday afternoon that kindergartens and primary schools in the province, except for Firuzkuh, will be closed on Wednesday, December 28, and will operate remotely in the morning and afternoon sessions.
