Iran and China's Request to the Taliban to Defend Afghan Women

Iran and China urge the Taliban to end restrictions on Afghan women

China and Iran, two neighboring countries of Afghanistan, have requested the Taliban to put an end to the restrictions imposed on the work and education of Afghan women.

In a joint statement released on Friday, February 27th, the last day of Ibrahim Raisi’s visit to China, Beijing and Tehran made this request to the Taliban.

While the international community has condemned the restrictions imposed on Afghan women, Iran and China, in their joint statement, rejected Western standards regarding human rights and democracy.

Since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan last summer, women and girls have been banned from attending universities and schools, and restrictions have been imposed on women’s employment.
