Iran and Russia’s cooperation to circumvent sanctions
Bloomberg reports that Russia and Iran are building an intercontinental trade route with billions of dollars in new investments, stretching from the eastern edge of Europe to the Indian Ocean. This is a 3,000-kilometer (1,860-mile) corridor that is beyond the reach of any foreign intervention.
The two countries are spending billions of dollars to accelerate cargo transit along rivers and railways connected to the Caspian Sea.
Data tracked by Bloomberg regarding ships passing through this area shows that dozens of Russian and Iranian ships, including some under sanctions, have previously traveled this route.
Under intense sanction pressures, Russia and Iran are turning towards each other, while both also have an eye towards the East.
