Iran's Chief Justice Should Have Dealt with Andisheh Pouya's Reporter Due to Improper Hijab

The head of Iran’s Supreme Court should have dealt with the Andisheh Pouya journalist due to improper hijab.

Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, head of the Supreme Court, criticized Masoud Pezeshkian, saying that during yesterday’s press conference with Iran’s president, action should have been taken against the Andisheh Pouya magazine journalist for improper hijab.

He made these remarks today, September 18, in response to yesterday’s press conference by Masoud Pezeshkian.

Mr. Pezeshkian, in that conference, responded to Maryam Shabani, a journalist from Andisheh Pouya magazine, who said she took shortcuts and alleyways to avoid the morality police, saying that the morality police still harass people.

Ms. Shabani replied that yes, they are still around, and Mr. Pezeshkian said he would follow up to ensure they do not harass people.

Now, the head of the Supreme Court, in the presence of judges and the representative of the Attorney General, says that if the morality police are to be dealt with, the improper hijab of that individual should also be addressed, and values should not be trampled upon.

On the second anniversary of the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini, which occurred in the custody of Tehran’s morality police and led to the nationwide protests of 2022, one of the protesters’ demands was opposition to mandatory hijab, which continues to this day.
