Italian Prime Minister’s Trip to Lebanon

Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, set off for an official visit to Lebanon on Friday, according to her office’s announcement.

This is the first visit by a head of government or head of state to Lebanon following the escalation of conflicts between Israel and Lebanese militants in recent weeks.

Ms. Meloni has also traveled to Beirut amid tensions over the United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, where her country has soldiers in this international force.

The right-wing Italian Prime Minister was welcomed at Beirut International Airport by her Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati.
