Jamileh Kadivar on sexual assault against female prisoners: This requires serious and immediate investigation by the judiciary.
Jamileh Kadivar wrote in a note on the Maktoob Telegram channel regarding Narges Mohammadi’s letter about sexual assault and harassment of female prisoners, stating that this issue requires serious and prompt investigation by the country’s judiciary.
Ms. Kadivar wrote that Narges Mohammadi, in her letter, mentioned the ineffectiveness of prisoners’ appeals to Heshmatollah Hayat Al-Ghaib, the head of Tehran’s prison organization, Kazem Gharib Abadi, the judiciary’s human rights official, and Zohreh Elahian, a member of parliament, and said that despite reporting these cases to the relevant authorities, no follow-up has been conducted by them.
She recommended that besides the judiciary, other bodies like the Article 90 Commission should thoroughly investigate this issue, and it would be good for IRIB to go to the women and girls imprisoned during recent protests to clear up any doubts surrounding the allegations and conduct interviews with them to verify the claims made.
