Josep Borrell Calls for Halting Israeli Operations in Lebanon

Josep Borrell called for a halt to Israel’s operations in Lebanon.

Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, called for a halt to Israel’s operations in Lebanon.

Mr. Borrell, speaking after an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers, said weapons must fall silent and the voice of diplomacy must be heard by everyone.

He added that the sovereignty of both Israel and Lebanon must be guaranteed and warned that any further military intervention would exacerbate the situation and should be avoided.

Earlier, CBS News reported, citing an American official, that Israel had informed Washington of its intention to carry out a limited military operation on Lebanese soil.
