Josep Borrell has been tasked with preparing and presenting specific proposals to intensify sanctions against Iran.
Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, was assigned today, Tuesday, to prepare and present specific proposals for intensifying sanctions against Iran by the unanimous decision of the 27 foreign ministers of the EU.
These sanctions should focus on restricting trade with Iran in a way that hinders the country’s production and development of drones and missiles. Additionally, sanctions should target individuals, entities, and companies involved in producing drones and missiles, as well as supplying them to Iran’s allied paramilitary forces in the region.
The initial agreement to intensify sanctions on Iran was reached last week following heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.
According to Annalena Baerbock, the German Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, the issue at hand is to utilize all sanction measures to prevent Iran and its allies from attacking Israel.
