Kim Jong Un's Sister, North Korea's Leader, Has Requested a Meeting with Japan's Prime Minister

The sister of the North Korean leader has requested a meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan.

Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of the North Korean leader, says that Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan, has requested a meeting with Kim Jong Un.

She stated that Mr. Kishida has called for holding this meeting as soon as possible.

However, she mentioned that holding this meeting without a change in Tokyo’s policies towards North Korea would be difficult.

In response to these statements, the Prime Minister of Japan stated that there is no meeting planned as part of this request.

Mr. Kishida, nevertheless, emphasized that he has always advocated for dialogues at the leader level of the two countries to resolve tensions.

The Prime Minister of Japan said he is willing to engage in talks to resolve issues between the two countries, including the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea in the 1970s and 1980s.

The last time a high-ranking Japanese official met with the North Korean leader was with Junichiro Koizumi in 2002.
