Minister of Guidance issued a directive on producing content to condemn abortion

We have issued a directive on condemning abortion by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran, praised the performance of the Fajr Film Festival in a meeting of the Public Culture Council yesterday, on February 13. He emphasized the public’s reception of this event and the abundance of films related to the revolution and the Iran-Iraq war. The most important part of the festival was that the festival venue was close to Iranian and Islamic patterns, and there was no news of ignorant deviation that always offended the religious revolutionary movement.

The authorities of the Islamic Republic accuse women who do not comply with mandatory hijab of self-promotion and ostentation, including in religious texts. The reference made by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran is likely to the absence of actresses with optional dress at this festival.

The mistakes made by Mr. Khazaee in reciting the religious prayer during the New Year’s Eve ceremony and his tiredness due to the intense work of organizing the festival have sparked many reactions.

Ismaeili mentioned in another part of his speech the necessity of active participation of subordinate institutions of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in implementing population growth policies. He emphasized the need for anti-abortion advertising and promoting the culture of encouraging population growth and condemning abortion. We have instructed all departments in the Ministry of Culture to have productions in this area next year. Of course, we cannot create a significant impact within one or two years, but we must not be passive in this regard.

The Iranian government has been following the directives of Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, in increasing population growth for several years. They pursue policies that limit prenatal screening and prohibit pregnancy prevention programs, which critics say will lead to the marginalization and exclusion of women in society.
