Mohammad Mehdi Karami's Sentence Confirmed: Will We Witness Another Athlete's Execution?

The sentence of Mohammad Mehdi Karami has been confirmed; we will witness the execution of another athlete.

While news sources report the overturning of Hamid Gharehhasanlou’s sentence and two other defendants, it is simultaneously reported that the death sentences of two other defendants in the Rouhollah Ajamian case have been confirmed: Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini.

Mohammad Mehdi Karami is one of the five individuals sentenced to death since the beginning of the show trials for the killing of a Basij member on the fortieth day of Hadis Najafi’s death in Karaj. There are fifteen defendants in this case, most of whom are facing death sentences, including three minors under 18 years old.

In the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini, two people have been executed so far: Mohsen Shekari and Majidreza Rahnavard, both of whom were athletes.

Mohammad Mehdi Karami also has a background as a karate champion in Iran. Clémentine Autain, a member of the French parliament, and Ardalan Shekarabi, a member of the Swedish parliament, are political sponsors of Mohammad Mehdi Karami.
