Negar Bagheri has been released

Negar Bagheri, a journalist and women’s rights activist, was informed of her charges and then temporarily released on bail of one billion rials after receiving notifications to appear in Evin Court on Monday, February 6th.

On Monday, Negar Bagheri was accused of conspiracy and collusion to commit a crime against national security at Evin Court. Since the beginning of the recent protests, more than 90 other journalists have also been summoned and arrested.

Since the start of the nationwide women’s movement, approximately 20,000 women have been imprisoned. However, the country’s prisons do not have the capacity to accommodate the countless number of prisoners that the authorities consider criminals.

The invitation to the court, the notification of charges, and the bail hearing for Negar Bagheri in one day are indications of infrastructure deficiencies and ongoing pressure to suppress journalists and activists.
