The new resolution of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace allows external platforms to obtain licenses through internal frameworks.
Seyyed Mohammad Amin Aghamiri, the Secretary of the Supreme Council and the head of the National Cyberspace Center, announced the decisions of the ninety-sixth session of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace regarding the possibility of accessing foreign platforms through acceptable governance mechanisms to regulate social messaging apps and establish a national comprehensive data system.
According to the resolution of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace, individuals, legal entities, and domestic and foreign private sectors can provide services to the people by presenting acceptable governance frameworks and obtaining legal permits.
This action, which was previously experienced in the country with Hotgram and Telegram Gold, creates new conditions where platforms and foreign services that did not have the possibility of direct operation in Iran can now operate in a new format while retaining all their services and platform capabilities.
In the first resolution of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace, the regulation of pricing is mandated to create diversity in users’ consumption basket through acceptable governance mechanisms and with the aim of meeting people’s needs, identifying popular foreign platforms and services that can provide services in a framework for them, and facilitating their operation within the country.
This resolution states that regulators are required to identify and technically assess the services and widely used foreign platforms within their regulatory scope within one month to enable users to access useful foreign services.
According to this resolution, the National Cyberspace Center is also obligated to grant the necessary permit for the private sector’s activity to the regulators after examination.
