Sahar Mosayebi, an Iranian filmmaker and director, published a photo of herself without a hijab.
Sahar Mosayebi, an Iranian filmmaker and director, joined the group of female filmmakers who have recently expressed their opposition to the mandatory hijab by publishing a photo of herself without it.
Ms. Mosayebi wrote on Instagram, ‘Today I am free. I owe this freedom to the people of my land, to the spilled blood of Mahsa, Neda, Nika, Navid, Sattar, and Kian, and to the grieving mothers, the loved ones in prison, and the brave men and women of my country.’
She continued, ‘I, Sahar Mosayebi, bow my head in respect, and if today I am proud of being a woman and being Iranian, it is because of you. In the name of woman, life, freedom.’
Ms. Mosayebi started her Instagram post with the final verse of Googoosh’s song ‘Divorce’ and wrote,
‘Perhaps if we stay together on this path, we can sing the song of happiness upon arrival.’
Previously, several other female filmmakers, including Taraneh Alidoosti, Hengameh Ghaziani, and Katayoun Riahi, had published photos of themselves without hijab on social media.
