Tavanir: Save on gas to prevent power outages
The Tavanir Company has warned that if Iranian citizens do not save on gas consumption, power outages will occur in the winter.
In a statement from this subsidiary of the Ministry of Energy, published on Monday, July 31, it is mentioned that the majority of the country’s electricity is produced through gas fuel in thermal power plants, and for this reason, attention must be paid to electricity and gas consumption.
Iran faced a 20,000 megawatt electricity shortage this summer, and it is expected that the winter gas shortage in the country will reach at least 250 million cubic meters daily.
Due to the lack of investment in solar and wind energy sectors and a significant drop in hydroelectric power production because of drought, Iran is almost entirely reliant on thermal power plants that operate on mazut and diesel fuel.
The severe winter gas shortage will force the government to either consume large amounts of pollutant fuels like mazut and diesel in power plants or halt the operation of some electricity-generating plants.
