Seyyed Mohammad Khatami: Reformists should elevate their understanding of people’s demands

It is important for the reformist organizations to elevate their understanding of the public demands.

The former president of our country emphasized in a message to the fourth national congress of the Assembly of Martyrs that the people’s sovereignty over their destiny can only be achieved by creating a space for expressing their desires and demands, and at the forefront of that is independence, freedom, material and spiritual well-being of the citizens, and strengthening the country’s infrastructure against external threats and aggressions. It is also about confronting the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of the people, and striving to eradicate the monsters of corruption, disorder, injustice, and discrimination, which unfortunately are still prevalent.

The request from the reformist organizations is twofold. Firstly, they should enhance their understanding and perception of the public demands. Secondly, by opening the door to dialogue, which requires accepting and tolerating others, not imposing unilateral desires and interpretations on others, they can find and pursue a national understanding and a way out of the crises that exist, and unfortunately, there are more potential grounds for their emergence.
