Statement by the Tehran Province Journalists Association on the Arrest of Several Journalists

Statement of the Tehran Province Journalists’ Association regarding the arrest of several journalists

Professionally speaking, covering public or limited protests is no different from covering an earthquake, flood, the inauguration of a dam or factory, publishing divorce statistics, or reporting a murder incident.

As a consequence of recent events, unfortunately, some of our colleagues have been arrested or summoned, who were precisely doing their professional duty and were directly tasked by their media managers to prepare news and reports about the death of Ms. Mahsa Amini and the reactions related to it, meaning they were performing their professional work and duties.

The Association firmly demands that our colleagues be released as soon as possible and that the opportunity to perform their duties be provided to them.

According to the information received by the Association, the names of the journalists who have been arrested or summoned so far are as follows:

Niloufar Hamedi, Rouhollah Nakhaei, Fatemeh Rajabi, Alireza Khoshbakht, Mojtaba Rahimi, Vida Rabbani, Elaheh Mohammadi, Elnaz Mohammadi, Hamed Shafiei
