Sudden Disruption of Iran's Electricity Transmission Line to Iraq

Sudden cut in Iran’s electricity transmission to Iraq

One day after the start of Turkey’s electricity exports to Iraq, authorities in Diyala province, Iraq, reported a sudden halt in electricity delivery from Iran.

Iraq’s official news agency reported on Tuesday, August 2nd, citing government sources in Diyala province, that both electricity transmission lines from Iran to this region have been deactivated for unknown reasons, leaving residents facing widespread power outages.

The report adds that 250 megawatts of electricity supplied by Iran to Diyala have been halted, while the region requires 900 megawatts of electricity due to rising temperatures.

The two electricity transmission lines from Iran to Diyala have a total transmission capacity of 550 megawatts, but Iran has only been delivering 250 megawatts to Diyala so far, and now that has also been halted.
