Swiss Ambassador's Visit to Qom Wearing a Chador

Swiss Ambassador’s Visit to Qom with a Headscarf

The presence of the Swiss ambassador with a headscarf in Qom has sparked anger among many critics of the Iranian government on social networks.

Adine Olivier Lozano is the Swiss ambassador, a country that, due to the lack of diplomatic relations between Iran and the United States, acts as Washington’s protector of interests in Tehran.

Ms. Lozano traveled to Qom and visited the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh in this city.

Iranian news agencies have mentioned visiting various places in the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh and getting familiar with Islamic culture and art as among the reasons for the Swiss ambassador’s presence in Qom.

Her presence with a headscarf alongside a cleric has led to many reactions and criticisms from users.

In response to these reactions, the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the ambassador of this country has observed the protocol of dressing when visiting a religious site. The ministry also stated that while interfaith exchanges are very important, Switzerland has clearly and repeatedly expressed its position on human rights violations in Iran.
