The head of Taliban’s information access received a Twitter blue checkmark
A Taliban official has managed to get the new blue checkmark by paying a monthly fee for his Twitter account
Hedayatullah Hedayat is the head of information access at the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Taliban
About a month ago, Elon Musk, the primary owner of Twitter, announced that those who want to have the blue checkmark next to their Twitter username must pay $8 per month, although this amount will vary in each country
So far, none of the official Taliban spokespersons have a verified account
Meanwhile, Meta, formerly Facebook, led by Mark Zuckerberg, which owns Instagram and Facebook, removed the accounts of Bakhtar News Agency and Afghanistan’s National Radio and Television, controlled by the Taliban, from Facebook and Instagram
In response to BBC’s questions on July 22, 2022, a Meta spokesperson said that they remove accounts operated by or on behalf of the Taliban, and praise, support, and representation of them are prohibited
